Volunteer Your Time and Talent

We need volunteers to represent Honor Flight Columbus at the events listed here.

If you can help, contact the coordinator listed. The veterans we serve will appreciate your participation.

At Honor Flight Columbus, we need to ensure we can keep up the pace with new veteran applications, and are looking for additional leaders to help steer us into next year and beyond. Areas where we would like to start training leadership positions using our last 2 flights of 2018 are listed here. Please consider joining our leadership team!

2018-2019 Flight Seasons

Mail Call Phone Leader

One of the main events during our Honor Flight trip is for every veteran to be given a Mail Call Bag with mail received from Family, Friends, groups, schools, etc. To get this process started we contact the veteran’s alternate contact. We have a small team of volunteers that receive the names they are to call and together we make all the calls and handle issues as they arise. All the phone calling and coordination is done at home and progress communicated through email. Cindy Kanwar would love to have additional leadership with this program. If you would also like to be on the team making the calls let us know. Email volunteer@honorflightcolumbus.org

Be part of our Media Team and help capture memories this flight season!

Sponsor-A-Vet Coordinator

This program has really taken off and needs a leader. Schools, Non-Profits, and volunteer groups within corporations are all wanting to participate and form a relationship with a Veteran. Through a donation organizations can sponsor an individual veteran and follow them through photos on their Honor Flight trip. Then they greet them at the airport and have a photo op. The sponsor also sends mail call to the Veteran and invites them to visit them to hear about their day. The program has a process already established – just needs a coordinator to help organize the Sponsors, and the Veterans and tweak the process as they see fit. Cindy Kanwar would provide the information on current process and help train and provide backup. Email volunteer@honorflightcolumbus.org

Speakers Bureau Co-Coordinator

WANTED - An experienced Honor Flight Volunteer to help lead our Speakers Bureau and Information Table Team. Honor Flight Columbus is regularly asked to appear at and tell the Honor Flight story at a wide variety of other interested groups, including schools, Veteran organizations, community organizations, clubs, government agencies, etc. The Speakers Bureau Coordinator responds to the requester, identifies one or more volunteers to fulfill the assignment and makes resources available to support the volunteer and the event.

The successful candidate would work closely with Joe Machado, Speakers Bureau Coordinator to respond to requesters, clarify expectations of the requester for the event, and call for volunteers from the Speakers Bureau database of more than 200 volunteers.  Requests arrive at an average rate of two or more per week for presentations and information booths.  After the event, the Speakers Bureau Coordinator follows up to make certain the event met the requesting organizations expectations.
