Yesterday the Honor Flight Columbus Board of Directors made the difficult decision to suspend scheduled flight operations for the rest of 2020 out of an abundance of caution, concern, and care for our Veterans, volunteers, and community as the world continues to navigate the COVID-19 public health crisis.
While we cannot travel during these difficult times, we want our Veterans know that their service is valued, recognized, and appreciated, and that we look forward to honoring them on a flight soon. Honor Flight Columbus will continue to monitor the situation and keep our communities informed as conditions evolve and allow us to resume flight operations.
We are grateful for the financial support of all donors, grateful Americans, businesses, foundations, schools, communities, guardians, and our 2020 flight sponsors: All Life Foundation, Battelle, Columbus Regional Airport Authority (CRAA) Community Fund, Dublin for Honor Flight, Nationwide, Vance Outdoors, Ragan/McNamara Family, and Westerville for Honor Flight with all of whose support will allow us to execute our mission as soon as it is possible.
Veteran applications and donations will continue to be accepted.
Today, all 476 Veterans who had been booked on flights for this Spring have been contacted and informed that their Honor Flights have been postponed. We will start start re-booking for our Fall flights around mid Summer.
With no crystal ball, and to be a team player in our State and Nation's efforts to contain this threat, we have taken the unprecedented step of cancelling our Spring flight season. This went from a very difficult decision to a very easy one in a matter of days. We are individually and organizationally deeply disappointed.
However, we are committed to the Honor Flight Columbus mission and our ability to deliver an appropriate, and fitting, well deserved, and in many cases long overdue experience for every senior Veteran interested.
We will take advantage of this time to turn a negative into a positive. To sharpen, refine, strengthen, and improve our systems and processes.
In the meantime, be safe, stay hydrated, practice social distancing, wash your hands, and keep your fingers out of your eyes, nose, mouth.
March 11,2020. This morning Honor Flight Columbus was notified by its parent organization Honor Flight Network, Inc., that effective immediately, they have mandated a suspension of all Honor Flight Trips through at least April 30th in response to concerns surrounding the Coronavirus public health crisis.
As soon as Honor Flight Columbus is permitted, we will resume our efforts to plan and execute our
mission. Please be patient with us as we navigate the scheduling and re-scheduling of our activities.
Veterans who have been booked on our April missions are in the process of being contacted now,
and our intent will be to book them on their Honor Flight in as timely of a manner as possible.
